Tecan Infinite Integration
Drive your plate reader in Python, without opening i-control
Read absorbance and fluorescence over 96 or 384 wells, stream rows as they finish, shake and heat the plate, and move the carrier from code.

- None required
- Runs On
- Linux / Windows / MacOS
What You Can Command on the Infinite
Each part of the reader is its own set of Python commands. The connector asks your device what's fitted, so read modes, shaking, and heating only show up if it has them.
Absorbance
Read OD at a set wavelength and bandwidth over a 96, 384 or custom plate layout. Each read waits for the reader and returns well IDs with values.
Fluorescence Intensity
Top-read fluorescence with set excitation and emission, returned well by well, with rows streaming as they finish.
Filter Slide
On F-series units: define and read the four filter slots, restore the fluorescence defaults, and eject the slide for a swap.
Plate Carrier
Extend or retract the carrier, and subscribe to whether it's out.
Shaking
Where fitted: linear or orbital shaking from 1 to 6 mm for up to 999 seconds. The call returns when the shake is done.
Temperature
Where fitted: set a heating target up to 42 °C, or switch heating off.
Read a Plate From Python
Ordinary async Python. Version it, test it, generate it at runtime like any other code.
from unitelabs.sdk import AsyncApiClient
client = AsyncApiClient()
# "Tecan Infinite 200" is the service name you set in GroundControl
reader = await client.get_service_by_name(name="Tecan Infinite 200")
measurement = reader.measurement_controller
await reader.carrier_controller.retract()
print(await measurement.read_absorbance(
wavelength=600, reference_wavelength=0, bandwidth=10,
flashes=10, settle_time=0, plate_layout="96", wells=["A1"],
))
Know One Connector, Know Them All
Every instrument is found and called the same way, and the same Python drives whatever comes next. See how that scales from one instrument to a whole lab with our lab orchestration software.
One API, Every Instrument
Find it by name, then call its actions. It's the same on a liquid handler, a reader or an incubator, whatever the vendor ships underneath.
Ask a Connector What It Can Do
Modules and actions are discoverable at runtime, and parameters carry their own types, units and constraints. You don't need a PDF to find out.
Also Works With
The same Python script can drive every instrument on the bench. A liquid handler sets up the plate, a thermal cycler can cycle it, and a reader measures it, all from one script.
Tecan Infinite
The questions automation engineers ask before integrating an Infinite plate reader.
Yes. With the UniteLabs connector you call the Infinite from Python: retract the carrier, read absorbance or fluorescence over a plate, and get well-by-well values back. It's ordinary async Python, so it can be version-controlled, tested and generated at runtime like any other code.
No. The connector talks to the reader's firmware directly over USB. On Linux and macOS nothing from Tecan is needed. On Windows the default setup uses Tecan's USB driver, which installs with i-control, so you install it once and keep it closed.
The Infinite 200 PRO family currently, confirmed on hardware with the F200 and the M200 Pro. Other Infinite ranges, such as the F50 and M Nano, aren't covered by this connector yet.
Absorbance and top fluorescence intensity. F-series units read through the filter slide, whose four slots you define from code. M-series units set wavelengths directly.
Well IDs paired with values, OD for absorbance and corrected intensities for fluorescence, plus the wavelength and bandwidth used. Rows stream as they finish, so you can watch a plate fill in.
Yes, if your unit has the hardware. Linear or orbital shaking from 1 to 6 mm for up to 999 seconds, and heating to a target of up to 42 °C. The connector only lists these commands when the reader reports them.
