We’re happy to announce that Tetsuwan Scientific has integrated with the UniteLabs SDK to bring easily programmable automation to a variety of new devices, including Hamilton’s STARlet platform.

With its stated mission to “free scientists from the bench”, San Francisco-based Tetsuwan has developed a software product called ResearchOS that helps researchers transfer experiments to an automated platform.

Starting with the PyLabRobot project to connect its first devices, Tetsuwan then collaborated with UniteLabs to connect more liquid handlers and device types. This means that all lab automation pieces can now speak the same language, and it unites the fragmented hardware layer via a single API.

No More Heavy Lifting

“UniteLabs will allow us to expand ResearchOS to a huge variety of hardware platforms, without us at Tetsuwan having to do the heavy lifting of writing a slew of drivers and building lab-specific Python SDKs,” says Cristian Ponce, CEO and Co-Founder of Tetsuwan.

“We are also able to use this SDK to feed back data and execution context to ResearchOS in real-time (with no black boxes!) to make decisions on troubleshooting, evaluating results, and to close the experimental validation loop.”

Tetsuwan adds that two things in particular make the UniteLabs SDK exciting for them: the transparency of our pricing model (no vendor scheduling suites required), and the breadth of our SDK across hundreds of devices (167 drivers and 5 liquid handling platforms, at the time of writing).

"We are incredibly excited to collaborate with Tetsuwan to provide the foundational infrastructure for the next generation of high-performing labs,” adds Robert Zechlin, Co-CEO of UniteLabs. “Seeing our SDK enable seamless, cross-platform automation proves the true power of closing the experimental validation loop.”
